About Us
The Racanello Family
A Family of Florists Since 1925.
Brothers Jack and Peter Racanello quickly rose to the top in their communities as leading florists and businessmen. Having worked in the florist industry for over 10 years at Latham Florist in Stamford and flower shops in Boston and New York City, in 1935 brothers Jack and Peter Racanello established Racanello Florist, selling everything from funeral flowers to Christmas trees on Richmond Hill Avenue. On September 5th 1936, the brothers opened Racanello Florist’s first location at 187 Main Street, Stamford and third brother Ambrose joined them as a floral designer. Shortly thereafter, Peter Racanello set out for New York City where he worked in the Sherry Netherlands Hotel Florist (most major hotels had their own florists in those days). In 1937 he opened Peter’s Flowers NYC in the world famous Herald Square Building, 1350 Broadway and quickly became one of New York City’s leading florists. To this day, Peter Racanello, Jr., son Jon and the Racanello family continue to operate Peters Flowers in Manhattan at 1350 Broadway, 1407 Broadway and 142 West 36th Street. Jack Racanellocontinued to successfully operate as Stamford’s leading florist on the same corner at 187 Main Street for over 50 years. Jack retired in 1979 and with a heavy heart, closed the doors to Racanello Florist.
With 87 years of Racanello florist history and experience, we have decided to reopen Racanello Florist in Stamford CT and will continue to serve New York City and the Tri State area as well as Stamford and the surrounding towns. Grandsons, John Cogliano and Jon Racanello both 3rd generation florists will reopen on September 5th 2023 at our newest location 18 Belltown Road, Stamford, CT. We look forward to making your family a part of our history as we serve you with the same honor and gratitude that has been passed down in our family for three generations
Special thanks to Peter Racanello Jr, our mentor and teacher for his love, support, and guidance and for making this possible.
